🏘️ Community Updates
Highlights from Ipê City, partner communities, or aligned initiatives.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, Sep 9, at 10 AM BRT, we’ll have Ipê City Town Hall on our Discord Server to update the community regarding next steps and listen to member updates about new projects. Also, we’ll perform our second Pulse - Proof of Collective Action.
If you want to get closer to the community, Town Halls are the perfect opportunity.
For those attending The Network State Conference in Singapore and/or Token2049, we’d love for you to join us at Draper House Singapore. Together with many startup society founders, we’ll be watching the second episode of The Network Society documentary. This episode explores the challenges facing the global healthcare system and showcases startups building parallel, Internet-native institutions.
🏫 New: Learning section
In this section will share the best learning resources and explain key concepts that are useful to reinvent governance and build a decentralized world. Anything specific you would like to see? Let us know.
Blockchains are emerging as the civic infrastructure of the digital age. If you want a voice in shaping tomorrow’s governance, understanding the basics of crypto is the first step. Thankfully, the most popular wallet, Metamask, has a full set of courses about crypto 101!
If you already have a wallet and want to learn about ENS and layer 2s, then head to the Bankless Academy for free courses that give you NFT certifications.
And if you are familiar with the above, but want to dig into the code, Alchemy proposes free courses for developers eager to learn about web3!
🌐 Network Societies Update
A quick pulse on emerging cities, nomad groups, and experiments shaping the future of network societies.
What if I tell you Zanzibar is an archipelago, but also the name given to the main island, and the name of a city in Tanzania. Do you know where Tanzania is? (hint: East coast of Africa)
They implemented the Zanzibar Development Plan (ZADEP) in 2021, a free tax zone focused on the “Blue economy” and sustainable developments.
Among the early adopters is Fumba town, a sustainable town development on the Fumba peninsula with 5,000 residential units planned over 149 acres of land.
And in this town, last July, builders gathered for Zanzalu 2, 2 weeks of intense programs around AI, web3, eGovernance, future of cities, and startup ecosystems. Notable members include Logos, who just started one of their Logos circles in Zanzibar.
⚖️ Governance Tools
Exploring mechanisms for coordination, decision-making, and digital governance.
Protocol Guild is a collective funding mechanism designed to support Ethereum's R&D maintainers, funding the individuals who contribute the most. The funding system is autonomous, transparent, and continuously updated quarterly to include new eligible members.
One of their funding source is the 1% pledge, where companies like Eigenlayer can give 1% of their native tokens to Protocol Guild, or more recently, our friends at Yodl!
Protocol Guild is part of many public good funding organizations using innovative governance mechanisms to support the ecosystem, with the likes of Gitcoin, Giveth, or Octant.
🛠️ Web3 Tools
Tech shaping decentralized living, finance, and identity.
Lots of upgrades in the Metamask ecosystem
Consensys, the company behind Metamask, started by Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin, is decentralizing in order to become a Network State.
Recently, Metamask implemented Web3Auth to enhance wallet security by enabling social logins, and will soon launch the Metamask USD (mUSD), a stablecoin on Ethereum and Linea.
Linea is a layer 2 blockchain on Ethereum, and this September 10, they are announcing the Token Generation Event of $LINEA (with an Airdrop!), their native token, managed by the Linea consortium with investors on a 10-year vesting schedule
The Linea chain is implementing a unique ETH-native staking of bridged assets at the protocol-level, which means holding assets is the same as staking assets!
